Richmond, Virginia, is a city that seamlessly blends history, culture, and outdoor adventure. With its charming cobblestone streets, historic architecture, and vibrant arts scene, the city offers a diverse range of experiences for visitors and locals alike. Whether you’re exploring the city’s renowned museums, strolling along the scenic James River, or indulging in the local culinary delights, Richmond has something for everyone.
#3 Catch some live music year-round
Richmond doesn’t just put on concerts in the fall – the city is home to plenty of concert venues and local performance spaces. “The Broadberry and the National downtown bring a wide variety of fun shows, but my absolute favorite is seeing a show on Brown’s Island,” says Danielle of Little Loves Photography, a photography studio in Richmond, VA. “It is located downtown and nestled between the city skyline and the James River. Each summer it is home to several concert series that bring in thousands of fans, vendors, and a variety of food and beer trucks for beautiful evenings of live music.”

Fun Fact: Richmond is home to one of the oldest municipal concert bands in the United States! The Richmond Concert Band was founded in 1971 and has been providing free concerts to the community ever since.
5. Check out the James River Park System
While in Richmond, you have to visit the James River Park System. “Richmond has a river that runs right through the city and there are so many ways to explore and enjoy it,” says Danielle of Little Loves Photography. “Belle Isle and Buttermilk Trail, both in the James River Park System, offer miles of trails to soak up some nature, take your dog for a walk, go for a run or go for a ride. Belle Isle in particular is steeped in local history and provides an amazing city-scape and river views. It’s also one of my favorite places to take pictures of my clients.”

18. Engage with Richmond’s food scene

“My go-to place for my favorite happy hour or meal out is Charred Swift Creek in the southside. Brunch is delicious – the chicken and waffles is a family favorite. In the warmer months, happy hour on the outside patio is lovely, particularly when they bring in live, local music. Order the Fried Brussel Sprouts, trust me!”
